Every week, ChannelE2E brings you the best cybersecurity insights from our affiliate site MSSP Alert, because we know MSPs need to stay on top of the latest trends in cybersecurity.
This week, Shark Tank star and Cyderas CEO Robert Herjavec announced he will step down, Microsoft and SentinelOne are among vendors named in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms, and IBM X-Force warns that attackers are using email compromise Commercial (BEC). and phishing to steal cloud credentials, and we are investigating the Security Operations Center (SOC) in the future. Here is our report.
IBM X-Force: Hackers using phishing and BEC to steal cloud credentials
Stolen credentials remain “currency” for threat groups targeting cloud environments, as evidenced by the range of tactics they use to obtain them – from phishing campaigns and business email compromise (BEC) to keystroke logging and brute force.
Another tool that tops the list is information theft malware, which is specifically designed to harvest platform and cloud service credentials, according to IBM's X-Force threat intelligence unit.
In the latest edition of the IBM -Intermediate Technologies (AITM). Such attacks involve hackers placing themselves between the victim and a legitimate service to intercept communications.
“This type of attack is particularly dangerous because it can bypass some forms of MFA (multi-factor authentication), making it a powerful tool for cybercriminals,” Austin Zeisel, a threat intelligence consultant at X-Force, wrote in an accompanying blog post. “Once inside a victim’s environment, threat actors seek to carry out their goals.”

The Gartner Magic Quadrant ranks Microsoft and SentinelOne among the leaders in EPP
Microsoft, SentinelOne and CrowdStrike are ranked at the top of Gartner's 2024 Maqic Quadrant for endpoint protection platform (EPP) vendors, which are increasingly important in protecting what remains among the most vulnerable parts of an organization's IT environment.
Cybercriminals continue to focus on identity and authentication as a way to penetrate corporate networks at a time when workforces are becoming more distributed.
EPPs provide a layer of protection that includes identifying malware and stopping it from executing on the system, detecting new threats, from fileless malware to ransomware, defending against insider threats, and investigating breaches. EPPs cover a wide range of devices, including PCs, laptops, servers, mobile phones and embedded systems.
Given all of this, it's no surprise that EPPs make up an important part of any MSSP's services portfolio.

MSSP experts are thinking about SOC for the future
Here at MSSP Alert, we've been thinking about the evolution of the Security Operations Center (SOC), which is essential to MSSP/MSP operations. What is the “SoC of the Future”? We wanted to hear from experts about underlying technologies, AI adoption, the concept of human-driven security versus hyper-automation, and more.
Security Operations Centers (SOCs) are driving how organizations detect, respond to, and mitigate cyber threats, and their evolution will impact the entire field of managed security services. The composition, operations, and effectiveness of future security operations centers may be as diverse as the threat actors themselves. But one thing we can be sure of, according to Andrew Douthwaite, CTO at VirtualArmour, is that cybersecurity will never stop because bad actors are constantly trying to hack anyone and everything.
