Fortinet gains cloud security expertise with acquisition of Lacework. Later this year, Lacework's CNAPP should be integrated into Fortinet's products.
Wiz almost acquired Lacework earlier this year. However, the acquisition fell apart during the due diligence process, despite not putting a finger on the sore spot. This may be due to a financial review or consideration of whether the two companies' products are suitable or not.
This has paved the way for other cybersecurity service providers to seize the opportunity on Lacework. Fortinet seized the opportunity; No financial details about the acquisition were disclosed. During the acquisition of Wizz, the deal was estimated at between 140 million and 190 million euros.
CNAPP
Lacework can build Fortinet's cybersecurity tools using the Cloud Native Application Protection Platform (CNAPP). The platform has unique features for securing hybrid cloud environments, according to Fortinet. “In the CNAPP market, most vendors help customers contextualize their risks, or help customers identify the threats they face. One vendor stood out from the rest because of its ability to do both on one unified, data-driven, organically built platform: Lacework.
The platform also monitors cloud environments and knows when a hacker tries to exploit them. This is done based on artificial intelligence and gives the user a clear overview of the hacker's actions.
Fortinet wants to integrate the platform into existing web application protection and API tools for intrusion attempts.
